Local Area and Amenities:
The village of San Miguel de Salinas sits on a hill above the pink Laguna de Torrevieja and offers impressive views over the countryside to this working lake with its salt piles. It is a quaint inland village with a traditional church square, town hall, tourist office, the Las Cuevas cave houses, a main high street, band stand, a municipal open air swimming pool for use during the summer and a busy street market every Wednesday morning.
It is a small town with a population of 8000 residents located in the Community of Valencia with a history which dates back to the mid 16th Century.
There are a number of local style cafes, restaurants and bars in the town, together with shops, banks and supermarkets, and the famous Villamartin Plaza with all its restaurants and bars is just a 5 min drive away.
With its inland location San Miguel de Salinas may not have any beaches itself, but the popular Orihuela Costa is only a 10 minutes drive away. The Orihuela Costa has many beautiful blue flag beaches and a number of lively marinas.
The countryside around San Miguel de Salinas is very attractive. North of San Miguel de Salinas there is the Salt Lakes Nature Park of Torrevieja and La Mata .
South of the town there are many lemon and orange groves. At the west side there is La Pedrera water reservoir, with its clear blue waters set against the backdrop of the mountains of the Sierra Escalona and La Pena. Near the” La Pedrera” lake there is a multi- adventure park: Lo Rufete .
In common with most Spanish towns, San Miguel de Salinas likes to celebrate with many fiestas. One of them is the “August fair”, another is the celebration of the patron of San Miguel at the end of September. In November you can enjoy the “Santa Cecila fiesta” a musical festival. And last but not least there are the parades in ” Holy Week ” or the ” La Semana Santa” with Easter.
The town hosts the Phoenix International school just a few minutes drive from the property.
The nearby town of Torrevieja has covered shopping malls with one at the Habenaras centre and only a 10 minute drive away is the brand new La Zenia Boulevard shopping and leisure complex. La Zenia Boulevard in addition to its many shops has a large food court, children’s play area, multi-screen cinema and ten pin bowling alley. Other popular destinations in Torrevieja include the impressive marina, it’s numerous nearby beaches and a choice of 2 water parks: Aquoplois or Aquapark Flamingo.
There are a number of high quality golf courses within a 15 min drive of the property. These include the highly regarded Las Colinas Golf and Country Club,Villamartin Club de Golf, Campoamor Club de Golf, Las Ramblas Club de Golf and the La Finca golf resort.
The area is well serviced by 2 airports with both Alicante and San Javier airports being approximately 30 minute drive away.
